Student Opportunities Participant
Andrew received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The College of William and Mary in December, 2016. His undergraduate research was primarily focused on using visual ecological principle to design blue claw crab traps that minimized diamondback terrapin by-catch. During his undergraduate tenure, Andrew also participated in Sea Education Association’s Sea Semester program; there, he investigated connections between ecology and public policy to implement marine management actions in the Sargasso Sea. Currently, he is interning with NASA at their Langley Research Center where he is assisting with the development of novel solar sail materials for space exploration. In August, 2017, Andrew begins a PhD program at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. His research will be in collaboration with the National Science Foundation’s Palmer Long-Term Ecological Research Program and will focus on the ecology and distribution of Antarctic larval fishes found adjacent the Western Antarctic Peninsula.
