A wave-making residency

Artists and scientists are important storytellers, inspiring people to see and experience the world in new ways. We provide Research Vessel Falkor (too) as a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration between artists and leading marine scientists. Our expeditions offer a range of ocean research topics that are ripe for artistic exploration.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Schmidt Ocean Institute’s Artist-at-Sea program harnesses the power of art and science to improve the understanding of our planetIn this residency program, one artist is invited on each expedition. They work alongside researchers, participating in daily scientific operations and practicing their craft. Each artist contributes one work of art that becomes part of Schmidt Ocean Institute’s Artist-at-Sea collection, which is exhibited globally. From Art Basel, one of the world’s largest art fairs, to the Royal Institution in London, this science and art collaboration is reaching more people each year – inspiring a connection with our planet’s life support system.

This program is currently by invitation only.
