Artist-at-Sea
TANYA YOUNG is an artist working in Del Mar, California. She started painting at a very young age, beginning with children's classes at the Art Institute of Chicago while in primary school. She graduated with a B.F.A. in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and received her M.F.A. in Painting at the University of Michigan. She completed a Professional Certificate Program in Science Illustration at California State University at Monterey Bay. Tanya has been a Science Illustration intern at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and was fortunate to continue working alongside Scripps scientists. The work has been deeply satisfying because of the incredible, gorgeously colored, occasionally bizarre beauty of the deep ocean and its creatures—an as-yet largely unknown fantasy universe, which she finds rich to explore. She hopes her paintings may convey her profound feeling of awe and mystery to others.
