Co-Principal Investigator
Dr. Puga-Bernabéu graduated and doctorate from the University of Granada in 2003 and 2007, respectively. He is Associate Professor at the University of Granada (Spain) and collaborator of the Geocoastal Research Group in the School of Geosciences at the University of Sydney where he spent two years as a postdoc (2009-2011). Ángel is a carbonate sedimentologist working on the recent and ancient sedimentary record. He is expert in field work, facies analysis, process-based sedimentology, geormophology, geochemistry and interpretation of geophysical data. His research has focused on the understanding of shelf-to-slope sediment processes and products on carbonate systems from different ages, since the Neogene to the Quaternary. Angel’s interest is now focused on the submarine canyon systems, the morphometric characterization and tsunamigenic potential of submarine landslides in the Great Barrier Reef as well as trying to discern its inception from the long-term turdibite record. Angel has participated in several expeditions in Australia and Spain, including the IODP Expedition 325 Great Barrier Reef Environmental Changes.
