Bethany Kolody is a graduate student researcher at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. She completed her B.S. in Biology at New York University Abu Dhabi, where her senior capstone thesis provided the first insights to the biogeography of free-living marine nematodes in the Arabian Gulf. Her research experience includes a semester at Sea with Sea Education Associaton sailing a brigantine tallship from Bermuda to Woods Hole in an effort to characterize rafting Vibrio communities on natural and artificial substrates, and working in NYU’s Center for Genomics and Systems Biology to understand alternative polyadenylation using the model organism C. elegans. Bethany's current research focus is marine microbial ecology. On this cruise she will be helping to process sediment samples from the ocean bottom in an effort to understand how marine bacteria adapt to such extreme pressures and temperatures.
