Science Communications Student Intern
Brandon Chan is a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Los Angeles studying the impacts of climate change on phytoplankton physiology and ecology. Prior to his work at UCLA, he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in marine and freshwater sciences and a degree in journalism. During his undergraduate studies, he researched phytoplankton-bacterial interactions and harmful algal blooms in the Gulf of Mexico.Brandon has additionally worked with the Beaufort Lagoons Ecosystem LTER in Utqiagvik, Alaska, creating outreach materials on Arctic ecosystems and research. He has also helped rescue and rehabilitate sea turtles and sea birds along the Texas Gulf Coast with the Amos Rehabilitation Keep. He enjoys hiking the outdoors, camping, and fishing in his free time.
