Brandon Enalls is graduate student in the Girguis Laboratory at Harvard University and is interested in better understanding the physiology of microbes that live in “extreme” environments. More specifically, his graduate research is focused on microbes living inside of hydrothermal vent chimney walls and how they use redox chemistry to obtain energy from the minerals that make up their home environment. Aboard the R/V Falkor, he will be assisting in processing samples and taking various geochemical measurements. Prior to starting at Harvard, Brandon received his B.Sc. in Biochemistry from Rider University in New Jersey. While there, he studied the genetics and biochemistry of stress response protein machinery in salt-loving microbes from the domain Archaea.
