Marine Technician
Carlos Fonseca was born and raised in Santo André, a city in the metropolitan area of São Paulo, Brazil. He has worked with electronics and technology since his childhood, following his father's footsteps. At that time, the ocean was just a place to go for a swim. He earned his bachelor’s degree in physics and his master’s in physical oceanography, both from the University of São Paulo. After his master’s, the ocean became a bunch of equations to model in order to answer scientific questions. After his graduation, he joined CIMAS-UM/NOAA-AOML working for the Physical Oceanography Division for eight years. His passion for understanding the physics of the Ocean aroused his love and respect for the Ocean and all its inhabitants. In 2010, he returned to his home country to establish the offshore division of a company to support the oil and gas industry, providing environmental, oceanographic, and geophysical services. On Falkor (too), Carlos is responsible for the maintenance and operation of scientific systems, as well as supporting scientists and the media team to achieve their mission goals.
At home, Carlos enjoys a quiet and calm atmosphere in Lorena, a small city in the countryside of São Paulo, where he lives with his wife and three daughters. He loves to spend time with his girls, watching soccer and rugby matches, and breeding canaries with his father and brother.
