Dieter Bevans is a graduate student researcher at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego. He received his B.S. in physics from the University of Utah with a focus on noise in OLED’s. His research involves acoustic properties in sediments, deep sea instrumentation, and the coupling of low-frequency sound from airborne sources into the ocean. During this cruise, Dieter will be deploying DeepSound MKII and MKIII, free falling instrument platforms, to profile ambient noise within the Mariana Trench with MKIII landing on the trench floor.
