Emilio Espinoza is an undergrad biochemistry student from the The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile affiliated with the Phytodelica Lab (Phytoplankton Diversity Ecology and Life Cycle Adaptations Laboratory). He did a research on virus-coccolithophorid interaction in Emiliania Huxleyi, comparing the degree of susceptibility to infection of different strains and analyzing whether the coccolith could explain these differences. Currently, he is interested in researching the phytoplankton community in anoxic marine zones, specifically, he tries to answer the question: Does Nitric Oxide signaling affect the phytoplankton community in the OMZ? Hopefully, he will know the answer after the cruise.
