Eric Orenstein is a Postdoctoral Fellow working in Kakani Katija's Bioinspriation Lab. Eric's work lives at the intersection of biological oceanography, ocean engineering, and computer science. He spends lots of time thinking about how to leverage new tools supported by automated analysis techniques to efficiently and densely observe the denizens of the ocean. In the Bioinspiration Lab, Eric is focusing on developing machine learning-supported tracking algorithms for autonomous vehicles carrying imaging payloads. Eric holds a PhD in Oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UCSD) and a B.A. in Physics from Colorado College.
