Fabian Cortes is a M.Sc in Oceanography student from the University of Concepcion, supervised by Dr. Montserrat Aldunate. and affiliated with the Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO). His previous research aimed to discern the biological, physical and chemical factors in which a phytoplankton bloom occurred. Currently, he is focused in researching the effect that anoxic conditions have in surface phytoplankton communities, specifically, answering the question: Does oxygen play an important role in the vertical distribution of phytoplankton communities? He is excited to join his first research cruise and contribute to the research of the science team any way he can.
