Florian Hillenhagen is a Ph.D. student at the University of Hawaii. He graduated from the University of Stuttgart, Germany with an M.S. in mechanical engineering in 2011. After two years of aerodynamic simulations work for the automotive industry he moved to Hawaii in 2014 to get a Ph.D. in ocean and resources engineering. His research is going to be on multiphase fluid flow. He will use the opportunity onboard Falkor to get a first experience working on a research vessel and to learn more about ocean fluid dynamics.
