Science Communication Manager
Jenny Woodman is the Science Communication Manager for Schmidt Ocean Institute, where she focuses on translating the science taking place during research expeditions for articles, social media, annual reports, and more. Before joining this team, she spent several years covering ocean health and technology for NASA and IEEE Earthzine, where she was lucky enough to spend several months at sea. Woodman experienced seafloor mapping, magical wildlife sightings in National Marine Sanctuaries, a little bit of seasickness, and exploring underwater volcanoes with robots. This work cultivated a passion for science communication and the desire to inspire a connection with the natural world, wild places, and our blue planet.
She has a Bachelor of Science in communication and a Master of Fine Arts in nonfiction creative writing, both from Portland State University. In her free time, she can be found knitting, creating a native plant garden for wildlife, or goofing around with her husband, David, and rescue pup, Winston.
