Jens Greinert

Principal Investigator

Jens Greinert is a Professor and researcher at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, Germany and heads the Deep Sea Monitoring Research Unit. Jens completed his Ph.D. studies at GEOMAR and Christian-Albrechts-Universität in Kiel and spent 8 years working in New Zealand, Belgium, and the Netherlands before returning to GEOMAR in 2013. In his early career, Jens focused on the formation of methane-derived authigenic carbonates and large barite mounds near seep environments and began quantifying seafloor bubble fluxes using lander- and ship-based system. Jens is a Principal Investigator on “Observing Seafloor Methane Seeps at the Edge of Hydrate Stability” and will be primarily responsible for deploying the GasQuant-II and the BubbleBox landers to quantify seafloor methane emissions. He will also collaborate on analysis of the Falkor’s water column imaging data used to capture methane plumes.
