Jose Martinez earned a BS in Oceanography from Texas A&M University and is currently a master’s graduate student at the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez majoring in chemical oceanography. He is a researcher of the Biogeochemistry Ecology Research Group in the Department of Marine Sciences at UPRM specifically looking at oxygen variability in southwest Puerto Rico. He also works under DNA Environment as a water quality technician ensuring that the water surrounding the EcoElectrica power plant is meeting local government regulations. He has a vested interest in marine research and wants to contribute to the growth of scientific knowledge of the oceans and how to effectively communicate it to a non-scientist audience. He intends to work in environmental policy or law after graduating from UPRM.
