Science Communications Intern
Katherine (Kate) Herries was a Master’s candidate at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Her research focused on reconstructing sea level rise during the last deglaciation. She used U-Th dating techniques on Hawaiian corals to resolve the age of the glacial meltwater pulse 1a. She also analyzed the coral samples for post-mortem biogeochemical processes that may disrupt the U/Th measurements. Kate received her B.S. in 2016 from Missouri University of Science and Technology. There she conducted undergraduate research on the paleoclimate of Storr’s Lake, the Bahamas. For this research, she flew to the Bahamas for field work in a hypersaline lake collecting living stromatolite samples. Kate’s has sailed on Falkor during the Unraveling Ancient Sea-level Secrets expedition.
