Kerys Meredew

Kerys Meredew is in the final year of her PhD in Volcanology at the University of Birmingham, UK. Her research investigates how magmatic systems are perturbed by volcanic sector collapse and subsequent edifice regrowth, focusing on the 2018 collapse of Anak Krakatau in Indonesia. As part of this project, she combines GIS-based structural investigations with stratigraphic study and geochemical analysis of volcanic tephra to develop a high-resolution reconstruction of an entire volcanic lifecycle.Kerys completed her MSci in Geology and Physical Geography at the University of Birmingham, where her research project involved analysing volcaniclastic material captured within sediment cores from the Mexico City region. After graduating, she went on to work as part of an outreach team focused on widening participation in Higher Education. Kerys then returned to Birmingham in 2021 to start her PhD studies.
