Marianne Heberlein is a Ph.D. student at the University of Alabama supervised by Dr. Rebecca L. Totten. Her research focuses on determining paleoenvironmental and glacial changes in the Amundsen Sea sector using geochemical, sedimentological, micropaleontological and geophysical methods. On this expedition, she is particularly interested in investigating the relationship between diatom blooms and volcanic tephra layers in Patagonia.Marianne earned her B.Sc. in geology from Universidad de Chile under the guidance of Dr. Rodrigo Fernández. During this time, she participated in several field trips and expeditions around Chile. She is excited to join her first research cruise and contribute to both the Coring and Marine Biology teams.
