Student Opportunities Participant
Nicholas is currently an undergraduate sophomore at the University of Hawaii at Manoa majoring in global environmental science under SOEST (the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology). During his time at UH, he has interned with Shawn Murakawa to try and better understand the life of Hawaiian sea turtles in the pelagic areas and has also started working with Christopher Sabine observing carbon chemistry to assess current ocean conditions in responses to carbon dioxide/climate change. In the future, Nicholas hopes to graduate UH with honors and attend graduate school. His interests lie within bathymetry, coral reef bleaching, human-assisted coral reef evolution, ocean acidification, hydrothermal activity, and carbonate chemistry. So far Nicholas has enjoyed his time doing research in the field and is driven to improve Earth's condition for future generations.
