Nina de Villiers is a Research Assistant at Nekton Mission. Nina is a marine ecologist focused on community structure, biogeography, and diversity of fishes. She completed her Masters at Rhodes University in South Africa where she studied the impacts artificial structures had on fish and benthic communities in an estuary. Her research has focused on conservation of vulnerable syngnathids of South Africa, estuarine ecology and deep sea fish communities in the Indian Ocean. She has experience in identifying southern hemisphere marine mammals and fish and spent time on the SA Agulhas II as part of onboard training. Nina is also a commercial diver Class IV and loves underwater photography.
