Oscar Ancco is a Fishing Engineer with mention in Marine Geology and Hydroacoustics. Currently, he belongs to the geological team of the project "Exploring the biodiversity and deep-sea habitats of the Nazca Ridge and adjacent areas" led by the Instituto del Mar del Perú (IMARPE). His research focuses on prospecting for areas of gas flares from the deep-sea, hydrothermal vents, seafloor mapping and seafloor geomorphology using hydroacoustic, oceanographic and geographic information systems (GIS) techniques. Oscar earned a bachelor's degree in Sciences and obtained his professional degree in Fisheries Engineering at the Federico Villarreal National University (UNFV), Peru. He was the winner of the "Thesis Contest for Timely Graduation 2021" as one of the best thesis, organized by UNFV with funds from the Ministry of Education (MINEDU). Oscar participated in different research cruises, he was in charge of the acoustic team of the ORCA III cruise belonging to the project "Evolution of submarine volcanism in the Bransfield Strait: Relationship of hydrothermal emanations with biodiversity and climate change" led by the Peruvian Geological Survey during the Antarctic expedition ANTAR XXVIII (2021-2022), on board the B.A.P. Carrasco. Oscar is very excited to discover the deep-sea mysteries of the Nazca Ridge National Reserve.
