Patricia Ayón

Biologist Patricia Ayón is the director of Biological Oceanography Research at the Institute of the Sea of Peru (IMARPE) and is also a professor at Ricardo Palma University. Her scientific interest focuses on the diversity and ecology of zooplankton biovolumes and early stages of commercially important species as anchovy, jack mackerel, hake, squid among others, Currently, she is conducting studies related to biodiversity using morphological techniques combined with molecular tools, sucha as DNA barcoding, which utilizes the cytochrome oxidase subunit1 (COI).Patricia graduated as a biologist from Ricardo Palma University and has studied for a master’s degree in ecology at the National University of San Marcos, both in Peru. She has participated and conducted many research cruises in the Peruvian sea, mainly to estimate the spawning biomass of anchovy using the daily egg production method.
