Science Communications Intern
Victoria Sindorf served as the SIO Communications Intern while pursuing her Masters Degree in Marine Biology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, studying the interactions between macroalgae and coral on Hawaiian reefs. Before coming to Hawaii, Victoria completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Ecology from Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, Washington and completed field research in Michigan, Seattle, Florida, Mexico and Kenya. In Hawaii, Victoria got involved in science education through the University of Hawaii Outreach College and the GENEius Day Biotechnology Outreach Program as both an instructor and curriculum development graduate assistant. Translating complex scientific concepts into hands-on educational activities became her passion, and the internship with SIO gave her the opportunity to build on those skills by writing about cutting-edge ocean research for a wide variety of audiences. After graduating from the University of Hawaii, Victoria moved to Boston where she worked as an Education Manager with The Trustees of Reservations, creating and delivering outdoor coastal educational activities for adults, families, preschool programs, field trips, and summer camp.
