Aleksey Sadekov is a Research Fellow at the Australian Research Council’s Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at the University of Western Australia. He grew up in a small town in Russia and obtained BSc and MSc degrees at the Moscow State University studying palaeontology and stratigraphy. Aleksey obtained his PhD at the Australian National University and has work as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh and University of Cambridge.
Aleksey’s expertise is in geochemistry of marine calcifiers, such as corals and foraminifera. These marine organisms secrete skeletons, which are usually made of calcium carbonate, with unique geochemical signatures that co-vary with changes in their environments' temperature, salinity and water quality. Aleksey’s research focuses on developing geochemical tools to extract this vital information to understand complex interconnections between ocean environments, climate change, and marine biota.
