André Luiz de Oliveira

André Luiz de Oliveira currently holds a PostDoc Researcher position at the Max-Planck-Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen (Germany). André has experience with next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and comparative "omics". His current research focuses of how interactions between metazoan hosts and their persistent symbiotic microorganisms drive body plan diversification and animal evolution. On his first cruise, André will be performing experiments with high-pressure vessels and culture systems to obtain early and late developmental stages of the giant tubeworm Riftia pachyptila. The goal of the project is to dissect molecularly (i.e., in-situ hybridisation) and computationally (i.e., RNA-sequencing) the organisation, regulation and the function of the genes expressed during Riftia development.
