Anna Downing is an undergraduate student at Whitman College. She is currently a junior Biology major with a specific interest in marine biology. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Anna’s interest in the ocean was largely cultivated by working for two years at the Seattle Aquarium as a youth interpreter, where she learned about marine science from the biologists there and communicated this knowledge to the public.Anna's interests are varied, but center on environmental adaptations in marine organisms, especially fish, and the amazing biodiversity found in every kind of aquatic ecosystem. She is currently preparing for her first full-scale research project with Dr. Paul Yancey studying deep-sea adaptation and the biochemistry behind it.Anna’s other other pursuits include the study of Mandarin Chinese, writing, sketching and illustration.
