Charlotte is currently in her first year of her MS program at Coastal Carolina University's Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies program. She works in the Groundwater Discharge Measurement Facility, as a member of Rick Peterson's lab, where she studies submarine groundwater flows in bacterial mats on the sea floor using naturally occurring radium isotopes. Her thesis will focus on sediment data collected specifically in the Guaymas Basin region near hydrothermal vents. She has also used this method to study seafloor sediment in the Gulf of Mexico. Charlotte has a previous master's degree in digital communication from Clemson University. During her graduate work she used emerging technologies, such as various GIS software, to study improved pedagogical methods in the classroom. She hopes to combine her experiences from both degrees as she moves forward.
