Berth of Opportunity
Ivonne obtained her bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Costa Rica. She is currently specializing in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology at the same institution. She is currently working on her undergraduate thesis, which focuses on studying the diversity and enzymatic activity of fungi found in deep-sea sediments in the Pacific region of Costa Rica. Ivonne is passionate about scientific divulgation and has published several divulgation articles in the Blog of the Tropical Biology Journal. In addition to this, Ivonne is the COO of the start-up "Bio.Fun," where she and the rest of the exceptional team, are developing a groundbreaking technology based on fungi to address emerging water pollution issues. By embarking on this expedition, Ivonne seeks personal growth as a woman in science, but also, acquiring new skills, and joining the movement of scientists working to understand and protect the deep ocean.
