Jaime Urrutia Fucugauchi is a Professor of Geophysics in the National University of Mexico UNAM. His major areas of interest are paleomagnetism, tectonics, stratigraphy, crustal structure and paleoclimates. In past years, his studies focused on the Chicxulub impact crater and the Cretaceous/Paleogene boundary. He has been in charge of the drilling projects in the impact area. Recent studies investigate the post-impact basin evolution and the impact effects on the carbonate platform, focusing on impact angle and its control of the asymmetries of the crater structure.
