Janet Voight(she/her)Title and Institution: Associate Curator of Invertebrate Zoology, Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, IL, USA Janet Voight is Associate Curator of Invertebrate Zoology at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, IL. She’s been studying octopods between the intertidal zone and the deep sea for nearly forty years. She’s interested in how the animals interact with their environment especially in the resource-poor deep sea and in their evolutionary relationships. About half of her scientific publications focus on octopods, addressing everything from the correct names, to behavior, reproduction, morphology, gut contents and internal anatomy. Among her popular publications is a book with Peggy Macnamara “From the Seashore to the Seafloor” published in 2022 by the University of Chicago Press. Janet earned her PhD at the University of Arizona in Tucson and stepped up as the fourth woman curator in the history of the Field Museum immediately after. She’s participated in 22 research cruises, two as Chief Scientist. She’s had eight dives in the ALVIN, several in the Johnson Sea-link II and has participated in hundreds of hours of Remotely Operated Vehicle lowerings, including those by the ROV ROPOS, ROV Jason and Jason II and the ROV Tiburon. Eight species in six phyla are named for her.
