Marine Technician
Before joining Schmidt Ocean InstituteI in 2012, Paul "Jimbo" Duncan worked at the UK's Natural Environment Research Council as a technician on the Royal Research Ships Challenger, Charles Darwin, Discovery, James Clark Ross, and James Cook.
As a marine technician, he is an integral part of the team that helps operate and maintain the various pieces of science equipment such as meteorological instruments, laboratory fridges, and multibeam mapping sonars.
He is very enthusiastic about open-source software, such as Linux and Libre Office, amateur radio, and steam locomotives.
