Dr Rob Hall is a physical oceanographer with research interests in the field of shelf sea and deep ocean fluid dynamics, diagnosed from both observations and numerical model simulations. He has a specific interest in internal waves and internal tides, their interactions with complex topography such as submarine canyons and seamounts, their effect on turbulent mixing, biogeochemical fluxes, and sediment resuspension, and their impact on pelagic and benthic ecosystems. As well as conventional shipboard instruments, he uses a variety of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to make observations in remote regions and for sustained periods.
Rob received his undergraduate degree in Oceanography from the University of Southampton and his PhD in Physical Oceanography from the University of Liverpool. Following a spell at the University of Hawai‛i at Mānoa as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, he moved to the University of East Anglia (UEA) where he is currently an Associate Professor. Rob has participated in a variety of oceanography cruises, including research in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Southern Oceans.
