Samantha is a Ph.D. candidate in the Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology Department at Stanford University. Her research focuses on the role that hydrodynamics play on the thermal climate surrounding coral reef habitats. On the Timor Sea cruise, Samantha will be collecting data that will allow for better prediction of temperature in the shallow regions of a reef atoll. Solar heating of the shallow water can lead to larger temperature extremes than offshore water, and subsequently pose a threat of bleaching to coral inhabitants. Samantha received her B.S. in Civil Engineering from The University of Florida, and her M.S. In Environmental Fluid Mechanics from Stanford University.
