Yerko Ignacio Castillo Vergara is a student of Marine Biology degree at Universidad de Valparaíso, Chile. He also as a student he participates in the benthos laboratory of the University of Valparaíso directed by professor Eulogio Soto. He is currently working on his thesis with benthos samples collected by the scientific cruiser R/V Falkoor Too in the expedition along the Salas y Gomez ridge in the seamounts.His research is mainly focused on the ecology, biodiversity and taxonomy of coastal and deep-sea benthos; macrobenthic communities and sediment biogeochemistry. During his student career he has characterized soft bottom benthic macrofaunal communities in the Huinay Fjord in northern Patagonia, Chile and this will be his second time aboard the R/V Falkoor too.
