Jeff is the most recent principal investigator to join the NOAA PMEL Earth-Ocean Interactions group. He is an Assistant Professor (senior research) in the Cooperative Institute for Marine Ecosystem and Resources Studies (CIMERS) located in Newport, Oregon. Jeff received his Ph.D in marine geology and geophysics from Oregon State University in 2016. He specializes in remote sensing/imaging the seafloor and subseafloor through acoustic and seismic tools. Jeff's research focuses on the geomorphology and tectonics of plate boundaries. He has primarily worked on collisional plate boundaries but was excited at the opportunity to study the Mid-Atlantic ridge, where plates are being made and diverging away from one another. The primary tool Jeff uses to study the seafloor is multibeam echosounders which can image the shape of the seafloor miles below the sea surface.
