Rob Harris is an expert in marine heat flow. He earned a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in geophysics from the University of Utah and completed post-docs at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami and the Masacchusetts Institute of Technology. He is currently a professor of geophysics at Oregon State University. Rob Harris interested in using thermal processes to understand the Earth. Heat (energy) and temperature are fundamental to many earth processes, and quantifying the flow of energy and thermal budgets leads to an appreciation and understanding of Earth dynamics. He currently leading the U.S. Academic Marine Heat Flow Capability and is currently working on both rifting and subducting margins. In rifted margins such as the Gulf of California he is interested in styles and patterns of fluid flow, how this influences rifting and the transition between oceanic and continental crust. At subduction zone he is using heat flow measurements and other tools to better understand relationship between temperature and deformation.
