Co-Chief Scientist
As an undergrad, Ronald Spelz studied oceanography in the Marine Sciences Faculty at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC) in Ensenada, Baja California, México. He worked for eight straight years in marine and coastal civil engineering projects before getting his Ph.D. in earth sciences at CICESE. Since then he’s participated in several research projects aiming to characterize the kinematics and past rupture history of several important fault systems in northern Baja California. His combined expertise in marine and structural geology has lead him to participate more recently in a multidisciplinary project investigating the mechanisms of fault-growth and fault-interactions, as well as the interrelationship between transform faulting and seafloor spreading in the Alarcon Rise and Pescadero basins in the southern Gulf of California.
